EASTERN MED, LLC TO FORMALLY RECOGNIZE ALPIN HAUS STAFF & PATRON FOR SAVING SPINNING INSTRUCTOR’S LIFE

AMSTERDAM – On Friday, June 28, 2019, at 10:00 AM, Eastern Med, LLC & the American Heart Association will recognize Alpin Haus Fitness staff and patron with the Eastern Med, LLC’s “Heart Hero Award.” The presentation will take place at Alpin Haus Fitness, located at 4852 State Highway 30, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Alpin Haus Family will also receive a plaque recognizing them for being CPR and AED ready as a business.

Eastern Med, LLC serves as the training center for Alpin Haus’ CPR/AED training program. “Upon hearing of this successful save, we felt compelled to recognize the three employees as worthy of receiving our highest award available for successfully resuscitating their spinning instructors’ life after his collapse during class,” said Sean Piasecki, President of Eastern Med.

According to the management at Alpin Haus Fitness the following took place:

“On Tuesday February 5th, 2019, Anthony Cianfarani, John Ravas, Edward Nicosia and Sandra Rodriguez got on their bikes for a cycle class with their Instructor Jack Mewhorter. About halfway through class, Jack got off his bike to turn on a few fans and talk to the participants. He then returned to his bike. Anthony said he was talking to his friend when he heard a loud thump and saw Jack lying next to his bike. Once they noticed he wasn’t moving, Anthony, John and the other class participants rushed to his side. Jack was gasping for breath and semi unconscious, then his eyes went glassy and he was unresponsive. John searched for a pulse but when they couldn’t find one, they laid him flat on the ground. Anthony put his ear to his mouth to try and hear any breath then put him on side to see if there was any obstructions in his mouth. They then laid Jack back on his back and started CPR. Anthony and John swapped out a couple of times performing CPR.
While this was happening, the front desk associate at the fitness center called 911 and then along with another class participant ran through the gym and sought out others they knew would be able to help. Rodriguez, a fitness instructor at Alpin Haus and nurse, along with Nicosia, an X-Ray technician came to help. The rescuers continued 2-man CPR until further help arrived. The ambulance arrived and then took over using a defibrillator and Jack came to, was stabilized and sitting up on the gurney before being transported to the hospital.”

Jack underwent cardiac surgery and is back to his everyday life style. We are pleased to inform you that all four rescuers and Jack will be attending the press conference/presentation.

Nearly 300,000 people suffer out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest each year. But,
having CPR performed doubles or triples the chances of a victim’s survival. It only
takes a small amount of time to learn CPR – and it could save a life.

Eastern Med is an Amsterdam based occupational health business that is an American Heart Association Training Center.
